Life size topiary stencils can look so real it's amazing. Here are a few tips on how to achieve the most stunning effects.
Pick your spot and check where the light is coming from. Stick up the stencil using spry glue not masking tape.
If the srencil comes in pieces start at the bottom and work up. Otherwise you might end up with your topiary hanging in mid-air.
Using a dark brown paint stipple lightly over the whole stencil. When it is touch dry(depends on the paint you use) move the stencil about ½ inch up and towards the light source.
Re-stick the stencil in the new position and paint over the shading with the normal colours you have chosen for the job.
Don't forget to make the colours lighter near the main light source and darker away from it.
Put a plant where you are painting to see the effect sunlight has on it and then just copy that effect onto your stencil.
