This is going to depend entirely on how flexible your stencil pattern is, what type of product and paintbrush you are using, as well as how intricate your design is. I hesitate to offer advice until I have more info! Please e-mail me; I’ll be happy to help.

In the meantime, experiment on a piece of scrap paneling. You may have some around your house, or you may be able to beg for scrap from your local hardware store.

A word of advice: you will get a sharper outline if you use the “pounce” method and a powdered color.

It depends on the type of stencil paint. But normally, you don’t “glob” stencil paint onto the surface, so it shouldn’t run from the groove any more than it would run on straight surface.

The main trick will be making sure you get the grooves covered without globbing the paint….

However, for this application, you may want to see if you can find Stencil Crayons which – I find – have a firmer consistency and don’t run as much as the liquid or cream types.
