This is going to depend entirely on how flexible your stencil pattern is, what type of product and paintbrush you are using, as well as how intricate your design is. I hesitate to offer advice until I have more info! Please e-mail me; I'll be happy to help.
In the meantime, experiment on a piece of scrap paneling. You may have some around your house, or you may be able to beg for scrap from your local hardware store.
A word of advice: you will get a sharper outline if you use the "pounce" method and a powdered color.
