Usgbc Charlotte Workshops & Regional Charter
Charlotte has some new master planned communities on the board with mixed residential styles planned. These units consist of condominiums and closely packed residences near downtown business areas. Green building in Charlotte is being pushed by the regional chapter of the USGBC.
The first annual Charlotte Clean and Green is the result of the combined efforts of more than a dozen organizations across the city and county. Passive education is not the only goal of the event. Its task is to create an enjoyable and attractive setting in which you or your relations can gain knowledge concerning the necessary life changes required to keep the environment clean and the economy sustainable.
Charlottte and Mecklenburg County are taking a leading role in promoting environmental social change in their community, as so many throughout the United States are doing. These communities are preparing initiatives that provide for individuals all working together to do their part to make this change.
Charlotte Clean and Green has partnered with the Appalachian State University Energy Center and Dept. of Technology to present the Hands-On Green experience, a collection of exhibits staffed with experts in the field of green building and renewable energy technologies. Hands-On Green will allow visitors to "touch and feel" green technologies and learn about Energy Star homes and appliances, lighting retrofits, green construction materials, and renewable technologies.
Central Piedmont Community College's Center for Sustainability is committing thousands of dollars by use of their campus and facilities. Faculty and staff are the most important contributors along with the participation of the Culinary and Construction Institutes and participation from science, engineering, and IT departments. CPCC's Student Life, Marketing Team, and staff of the Futures Institute are part of the Charlotte Clean & Green Team.
A significant new partner, the USGBC Charlotte Region Chapter has been a welcome addition to the program. They're planning to conduct LEED Charlotte workshops for builders in an attempt to increase green home building awareness and strategies for this region. Plus, the chapter plans to promote itself via each member and professional contact they have. The region has qualified and will get funding to support the greening program
