What is a Rubber Stamp?

 

If you’ve long been practicing the art of rubber stamping, chances are you know what a rubber stamp is.  But if you are someone who is new to the craft, I bet you would like to know what a rubber stamp and for what it is used.

 

Well, the art of rubber stamping has been around for about a hundred years now.  No one can exactly pinpoint its origin, but although that said stamping is believed to have emerged as a form of art in the 18th century.  Many people have been practicing the art since then, and it’s worth knowing that majority of them have experienced a sense of satisfaction and joy not just because they have created or developed some artistic pieces they think they can’t do before, but because they have discovered that just like any humans, they have the artistic talent.  With more and more people realizing that fact, rubber stamping is now continually rising as an important craft.

 

So what is a rubber stamp?

 

Basically, the stamp is so-called with the term “rubber” on it simply for the obvious reason that it is made of rubber.  It is created by carving a desired image on the rubber which later is mounted on a piece of wood or an acrylic block for an easy use.  The stamp comes in almost all forms.  They vary in sizes, shapes, and style and many of those that are offered on the market come with varying prices.  The price of these pieces though differs according to the quality and style of the stamp made.

 

Speaking of style, many stamps come pretty whimsical.  Others are elegant, while there are also some that carry a sense of weirdness.   In quality, they vary from less versatile to the most versatile, and in some instances, most are just designed so simple, while the others are so intricate.  The choices are really endless, but because of their number, finding the right stamp can be a bit difficult.  This is true especially for the beginners.

 

So in order to find the right stamping material, it is best to look at yourself and know what you really prefer.  It is also effective to look at each stamp knowing that each has a different feature.  If, for instance, you want something for a greeting card, it would be great if you’ll consider the most versatile stamps available on the market. Rubber stamps with images of cartoon characters and portraits of people may not always be useful for all occasion, while those that are designed with flowers, leaves, trees, landscapes, and textures may create a good blend of images.  The text stamps may also say the best as the words “Congratulations” and “Thank You”, for example, can speak all that you need to say.

 

The bottom line is, rubber stamp is an artistic product that comes in all faces.  The challenge remains on finding the right one.
