Stencils Question And Answer

Is it possible to make stencils from inkjet print out?

Cutting out stencils is sooo laborious. Does anyone know of a technique or method using clear film, inkjet printing reverse image and etching out the non inked area with a chemical? Laser cutting is expensive. I want to transfer images to canvas without using transfer paper or decal paper.

Don't know about anything to etch, but have you seen a stencil burner before? It makes cutting out stencils much easier. Here's a link to see what I'm talking about. http://www.reuels.com/reuels/product3226.html
get some transparencies, set your printer to print on this medium and then cut out the design.....tee naaaaahhhhhhhh
I don't know any etching method but there are some easier cutting out gadgets. The Olfa double bladed stencil cutter ref SC1 has - you guessed it- a double blade so you only need to cut once. It can be spaced at 1mm, 1.5mm or 2mm rrp £4.35. Find it at stationers. It is sold to the trade by the Pilot Pen Co. so if you can't find one ask a stationer selling Pilot pens if they will order it for you. Cut-master stencil cutting kit ref. SCK-01 rrp £42.95 includes hot 'angled-tip' stencil cutter with burn proof cable and fitted mains plug, double sided heat resistant A4 cutting board, 4 acetate A4 stencil blanks & instructions. Accessories spare stencil cutting tip £7.60 and pack 5 acetate stencil blanks £6.50 - you can use thick book cover acetate around 240-250 micron which should be a lot cheaper. This machine can also double up for use with encaustic art. Probably not easily found as a stock item, we sell about two a year and get them from a trade wholesaler called Magna Craft. You could try calling them on 01730 810055 to find out if they have a local stockist. Rubber stamp manufacturers can produce stencils on oil board or metal if you need something permanent. Price would be high if it is a large area.
